Leica has just announced its replacement for the Leica X1. The new Leica X2 is a compact digital camera that includes a variety of improvements, including a 16.2 megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor, extendable ISO range up to 12, 500 and a 24mm f/2.8 Elmarit ASPH lens.

As you can see, the design hasn’t changed much from the X1, except the fact that it’s a bit heavier. The X2 design allows users to rapidly switch between different modes and settings. It also has an improved auto-focus system and a simple operation menu that should be fairly easy to master.

A nifty little feature included in the X2 is a popup flash that offers an additional light source should the situation require it. And included in the X2 package is a copy of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.

Overall, the Leica X2 boasts a variety of new features and improvements that make it a decent point and shoot camera. At a retail price of $1, 995.00 it is a bit more expensive than its predecessor, but the price is somewhat justified by the X2′s noticeable performance improvements.
